Ring of Fire Cycle Ride!
Whether you're after a healthy way to spend the day with your family or a testing challenge, there's a route for you, so why not come and take part in this fun cycling event; pedalling your way along beautiful country lanes and around the scenic West Berkshire countryside, in aid of the Firefighter's Charity and Camp Uganda. Have fun, get fit, and challenge yourself, all whilst supporting two good causes at the same time.
The Routes:
All routes are circular, and start & finish at The Wharf, Newbury, close to the public conveniences and library.
10 mile
The shortest ride of the three, passing Newbury Fire Station and then on to some of the quieter roads around the Newbury area.
30 Mile
A slightly longer route with a few hills passing 3 out of the 4 fire stations in West Berkshire: Newbury, Lambourn and Hungerford.
60 Mile
A challenging ride for the more experienced cyclist, that passes all 4 of the West Berkshire fire stations: Newbury, Pangbourne, Lambourn & Hungerford, circumnavigating the west of the county in the process!
On The Day
Start Time & Place
Registration is from 9:00am to 11:00am, at the start which will be located in The Peace Garden, Wharf Road, Newbury, RG14 5AU. For more information on the start location, see location map.
Equipment
You must bring your own personal equipment which we suggest includes:
- Helmet
- Your Bicycle - In a roadworthy condition
- Puncture Repair Kit
- Spare Inner Tube
- Tyre Pump
- Mobile Phone
- Route Maps (Provided upon entry)
- Rider Number
- Water Bottle
- Clothing - appropriate to weather conditions on the day
Prize Draw
The Prize Draw will take place at 5:45pm at the Start / Finish.
Finish
The event will finish at 6:00pm.
Safety
For your own safety please follow the guidelines below:
- If you have any pre-existing medical conditions please consult your Doctor before participating in this event
- Please ensure your bike is properly serviced and in a roadworthy condition
- Wear a helmet
- Abide by all road signs and markings
- Take care at road junctions
- Remember all routes used are open to traffic on the day
- Look out for potholes
- If you see another cyclist in difficulty please stop and offer assistance
- Keep hydrated!
